Melt-derived and sol-gel derived bioactive glasses doped with metallic ions for antibacterial applications
Betreuer (FAU): Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
This project investigate a new family of metallic ion doped silicate bioactive glasses derived from melting and sol-gel processes. The bioactive glasses are compared in their structure, microstructure, thermal properties, bioactivity, biocompatibility and antibacterial effects. Part of the characterisation is carried out at the Institute of Biomaterials in Erlangen while the glass synthesis takes place at the home institution, in the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics, Department of Silicate Chemistry and Macromolecular Compounds, AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland, under supervision of Prof. Maciej Sitarz.
