Mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles as coating of 3D bioactive glass scaffolds
Betreuer: Qaisar Nawaz, Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Aldo R. Boccaccini
The project is focused on the study of mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBG), which present attractive properties through their pore size and mesopore-related high surface area and pore volume [1], applied as coating of 3D bioactive glass scaffolds. Mesopores in MBG provide very promising characteristics for bone tissue regeneration having the ability to deliver drugs and growth factors in controlled manner over a period of time [2]. Thus MBG based coatings impart new functionalities to standard 3D scaffolds rendering the possibility of designing a new generation of scaffolds with drug delivery capability. The new scaffolds will be caracterised at the microstructural level and in terms of their ability to deliver model drugs in in-vitro tests.
