Development of Calcium Phosphate, Bioglass/Biopolymer Composites for Bone Tissue Engineering

This long-term visit takes place in the framework of the EU Horizon 2020 Teaming Phase 2 funded project: “Baltic Biomaterials Centre of Excellence – BBCE” (Grant agreement No. 857287). Within the scope of the project, combinations of calcium phosphate and mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles in biopolymers will be prepared by Electrospinning and Melt Electrowriting techniques. A comprehensive characterization of the new composites will be carried out, including the assessment of biomineralization, mechanical stability, and bioactivity. The project is a collaboration between the Institute of Biomaterials at FAU (Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini) and the Rudolfs Cimdins Riga Biomaterials Innovations and Development Centre, Riga Technical University, Latvia, led by Prof. Janis Locs.
