Fabrication and characterization of bioactive and antibacterial coatings for orthopedic applications

Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) is a versatile process in the biomaterial sector, particularly in the production of bioactive coatings for micro and nanostructures [1]. Despite the widespread use of metallic orthopedic implants, they often fail due to insufficient bone bonding or the development of bacterial infections [2]. To overcome these problems, chitosan, bioactive glass particles and other biomolecules will be used for developing bioactive and antibacterial coatings in this project using EPD. The aim of the project is to optimize the coating process and the physicochemical and biological characterization of the coatings.
