Bioactive and antibacterial hybrid coatings for complex geometry surgical orthopedic and dental implants
Mitarbeiter: Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Aldo R. Boccaccini
This project is being carried on as a part of an Experienced Researchers Georg Forster Research Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (2018) awarded to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Josefina Ballarre, from INTEMA, National University of Mar del Plata, Argentina.
The main challenge of this project is to apply two different and cost-effective technologies (spray deposited hybrid organic-inorganic with bioactive particles) sol gel coating [1,2] and electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of gelatin-chitosan-silica antibiotic coating [3, 4]) to modify the surface of typical implantological screw-shaped metals such as stainless steel (temporary) and titanium (permanent). The bilayered deposit will create a dual multifunctional coating able to protect against corrosion, induce bone formation and reduce infection risks.
