Advanced fabrication of scaffolds with oriented porosity
Supervisors: Florencia Diaz, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
Scaffolds for tissue engineering are structures designed to provide support for new tissue, facilitate cellular growth and proliferation. The Ice segregation induced self-assembly (ISISA) technique is used to obtain scaffolds with aligned pore structures. In this work, ISISA will be used in conjunction with natural polymers to obtain an anisotropic scaffold with potential applications in tendon tissue engineering. The focus of the project will be on the optimization of processing parameters and crosslinking conditions. Multiple characterization techniques will be used to determine scaffold microstructure and properties.
