Development of antibacterial nanocomposites exploiting metallic ion release

This project focuses on developing novel antibacterial biomaterials by fabricating nanocomposite scaffolds using cobalt-chitosan complexes and cerium-containing mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (Ce-MBGNPs) [1]. Characterization techniques such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) were employed to assess the structural integrity of the synthesized materials. Cell studies are carried out to assess the cytotoxicity and antibacterial efficacy of the nanocomposite scaffolds. Additionally, degradation studies and mechanical testing are performed to evaluate scaffold stability and mechanical properties. This research pursues the innovation of nanocomposite scaffolds as advanced antibacterial biomaterials for biomedical use.
