Polyphenol loaded, Cu-containing mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles with potential to promote wound healing
Supervisors: Dr. Sara Poursharestani, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
One of the major challenges facing the healthcare system is severe trauma leading to uncontrolled bleeding and delayed wound healing. Mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGN) with high surface area and tunable pore volume are of great interest to tackle these challenges [1-2].
There are many phenolic compounds with ability to interact with multiple organic, inorganic, hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials. This together with their anti-inflammatory and antibacterial abilities make such natural compounds interesting for biomedical applications [3]. Therefore, combination of MBGN and such biomaterials could enhance their functions for hemostatic and wound healing applications [4].
The aim of this thesis is to develop Cu-MBGN loaded with phenolic compounds and to evaluate their physicochemical properties in undoped MBGN.
