Processing and characterization of a variety of bioactive glass based composites
Supervisors in Erlangen: Dr. Liliana Liverani, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
In the framework of the EU-funded (Horizon 2020) project FunGlass (Centre for Functional and Surface Functionalized Glass) based at Alexander Dubček University of Trenčin (Slovakia) and coordinated by prof. Dušan Galusek, the Department of Biomaterials has been recently established. The Institute of Biomaterials at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg is one from four internationals partners in FunGlass with the main function of providing support and intensive training to FunGlass researchers and students in the field of bioactive materials. Dr Michalek was appointed as the Head of the Biomaterials Department in July 2018. The department deals with the processing and characterization of bioactive glasses and composites, new compositions of bioactive glasses to add novel functionalities, evaluation of the biological response to the new biomaterials and developing technologies for scaffold fabrication with enhanced mechanical properties.
