Bioactive glass nanoparticles and the production of layered scaffolds combining different production techniques

Bioactive glass nanoparticles (BGNs) are a newly class of nanomaterials as part of the bioactive glass family. They are mostly known for their bioactivity and osteoconductivity. The aim of the study is to investigate the production and characterisation of boron containing BGNs and to asseess tissue regeneration properties, specifically their biological activity [1]. Another aspect to be investigated is the possibility of using such B containing BGNs as drug delivery devices. In this case different types of techniques will be tested in order to generate the nanoparticles in mesoporous form. The BGNs will be then combined with biopolymers to fabricate layered scaffolds, for example by combining electrospinning and 3D printing.
