Bioactivity studies on sol-gel derived bioactive glass powders

Betreuer in Erlangen: Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Aldo R. Boccaccini

Muhammad Mujtaba is currently doing his Ph.D. in Biotechnology at Ankara University, Turkey. He is working with organic polymers from marine and plant sources like chitin, chitosan, mucilage, and cellulose in terms of isolation, characterization (both physicochemical and biological) and application for food packaging, control release, and absorption studies (DNA and protein). In his Ph.D. research, he is focusing on the controlled release of different plant hormones. His project at the Erlangen Institute of Biomaterials (WW7) focuses on the synthesis of silica-based bioactive glass (BG) particles with different morphologies. One of the synthesis routes being investigated is the sol-gel method. The bioactivity of the BG particles will be analyzed in simulated body fluid and by cell culture studies.
