Development and characterization of novel multicomponent coatings for biomedical applications by electrophoretic deposition

Betreuer*in: Zoya Hadzhieva, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini

The project focuses on the preparation and characterization of biopolymer coatings containing inorganic bioactive nanoparticles on stainless steel substrates by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) [1]. In order to endow antibacterial efficacy to the coatings, other particulate inclusions such as mesoporous bioactive glass together with essential oil will be incorporated in the composite coating. As a result, the developed multicomponent coating systems will be compared in terms of their morphological characteristics, biological and bactericidal activity, corrosion behavior, mechanical properties and in-vitro time-dependent degradation behavior.
