Bioactive and antibacterial composite coatings using electrophoretic deposition
Betreuer: Laura Ramos Rivera, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
In this project we focus on the development of organic-inorganic composite coatings for biomedical applications by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) [1]. The composites are formed by bioactive glass particles (45S5 and ion doped 45S5) and zein for bioactive and antibacterial coatings of metallic biomaterials [2]. After EPD, surface characterisation will be carried out by a range of methods. Moreover the interaction of the coatings with simulated body fluid as well as the degradation and associated ion release of the samples will be investigated. The results will be relevant to produce antibacterial and bioactive coatings for applications in orthopedic implants.
