Synergistic effects of bioactive implanted materials, trace elements and small molecules promoting bone regeneration and osseointegration under osteoporotic conditions
Betreuer: Dr. Kai Zheng, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
The objective of the project is to develop novel bioactive bone implants by coating mesoporous bioactive glasses (MBG) on polymer-based composites via electrophoretic deposition (EPD). The coating of MBG could enhance the biomineralization of the biopolymer-based composites. MBG could also release active ions (e.g., Cu, Zn ions) to promote biological activities including osteogenesis and angiogenesis. Due to the mesoporous structure of the particles, a relatively large amount of antibacterial molecules are loaded into the coating to develop antibacterial surfaces. Eventually, such multifunctional coatings can promote bone regeneration and osseointegration as well as inhibiting bacterial colonization. This project is part of a collaboration (DAAD-CSC) between our Institute and the research group of Prof. Prof. Jie Wei at the Engineering Research Center for Biomedical Materials of Ministry of Education, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, P. R. China.
