Novel Functionalization of Electrospinning Composite Nanofibers for Wound Healing
Supervisor: Meng Li, Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini
Mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGNs) are gaining increasing attention in the field of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering due to their potential for soft tissue repair. Notably, these nanoparticles exhibit antibacterial properties, and their therapeutic potential can be further enhanced by modifying their composition or combining them with different materials, such as functional polymers and biological agents. These modifications should facilitate faster and more effective wound healing [1].
Nanofibrous scaffold has been manifested to act as a temporary matrix for cell proliferation and extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition because of its function in mimicking the native ECM. Electrospinning technique is a facile and effective method to customize the scaffold features [2].
In this research project, electrospinning technique is employed to fabricate composite nanofibrous scaffolds based on polymer and element-doped MBGNs. The goal is to engineer suitable scaffolds for wound healing by optimizing MGBNs composition andnanofibrous structures.
