Processing, characterisation and applications of multifunctional mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles

Betreuer: Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Aldo R. Boccaccini

My main research project involves the development of smart platforms for effective, non-invasive, and highly targeted therapies to treat delayed bone healing and non-healing chronic skin wounds. For this purpose, solid and hollow mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (MBGN) are being developed for controlled delivery of therapeutic agents [1]. Specific bioactive ions that can promote osteogenesis, angiogenesis and with antibacterial potential are bein considered to dope these MBGN to enhance bone regeneration or wound healing [2]. The project is being carried out in the framework of the EU funded project (“MOZART”) „MesopOrous matrices for localiZed pH-triggered releAse of theRapeuTic ions and drugs” (LINK: http://www.mozartproject.eu/).
